About Our Sommelier for the Evening

Stephanie SkagerStephanie Stawski was born and raised in Minneapolis MN where her family still resides. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stout with a bachelor's degree in Hotel Restaurant Tourism Management. After graduation, Stephanie moved to the Chicago area where she landed a job with Ivanhoe Country Club in Mundelein, IL. After four years she decided it was time for a change and decided to pursue a lifelong desire to move down south, and escape the cold. She accepted a job with Rollers in 2012. Shortly after, she passed her intro exam with the Court of Master Sommeliers, and in 2014 she passed the Certified Sommelier Exam. She has enjoyed a plethora of experiences since joining the Rollers team including Oregon Pinot Camp, Schramsberg Camp, Ancient Peaks Boot Camp, Texsom, educational travel to California, the Finger Lakes of New York, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Provence, Champagne, and Australia. In the past 3 years Stephanie has been educating herself in other ways as she has gotten married and had 2 children. Her daughter, Lennon just turned 3 and her son Daws, turned 1 in August. Stephanie is excited to continue her journey and share her love of wine!

Our Women Winemakers Featured for the Evening

1.     Heron Chardonnay

Laely HeronBrought to you by female Winemaker Laely Heron, this vibrant, flint colored Chardonnay illustrates its unoaked composition in appearance as well as profile. The aromas of the wine display ripe citrus and tropical notes such as guava and passion fruit. There is subtle clove spice underneath which is expressed as varietal with a key lime scent. The palate is a mouthful of fruit from apricot to Fuji apple, to dried pineapple & ripe casaba melon. The finish furnishes a lovely, silky honey texture adding to the ripe apple, which together coats the palate elegantly.

Cheese Pairing: Brie; Flavor: Mild, Nutty, Fruity

2.    Lorenza Rose

Lorenza Rose was founded in 2008 by Melinda Kearney, a wine industry veteran from Napa Valley and her daughter Michele Lorenza Ouellet, an international fashion model. The 2019 is luminous, pale, ballet slipper pink reflecting light, promising vibrancy. Familiar are aromas of peaches, apricots, jasmine, honeydew. The wine enters the mid-palate roundly with honey and lemon then vividly sparkles on the edges with tart kiwi, guava, citrus, honeysuckle. The 2019 finishes with mouthwatering, crisp meyer lemon that lingers.

Cheese Pairing: Chevre (Goat’s milk); Flavor: Tart, earthy

3.     Martha Stoumen Post Flirtation Red Blend

Martha Stoumen WinesMartha Stoumen Wines was founded upon the desire to recapture a farming and winemaking culture that has all but faded away: a winemaking culture of patience. In the cellar, she uses  a minimalist winemaking approach. Patience in the cellar means letting the natural yeast and bacteria present on the grape skins perform fermentation and allowing longer macerations and aging to provide stability rather than using added tannin, acid, or stabilizing agents in my wines. Above all, she strives to make wines that are delicious, joyful, and truly representative of California. This wine presents notes of ripe blackberry and dried plum balance more herbaceous characteristics of pine and rosemary; still a fruit forward, approachable wine that will become a fast friend; a buoyant wine that will lift up our pallet rather than weight it down.

Cheese Pairing: Gruyere; Flavor: Sweet but slightly salty, earthy, nutty
